Financial Inequity

From "Planning for Equity: Infrastructure & Investments in McMinnville Neighborhoods"

Go to the project

It would be nice to have infrastructure improvements in our neighborhood (e.g., completed sidewalks, underground power lines, a neighborhood park that is not a homeless campground), but what would help us the most is to not ask us to pay for expensive new development on the other side of town. Currently System Development Charges (SDCs) are charged to new development at a rate that covers less than half the cost to the city. That means the existing residents (like those of us in the neighborhoods you are concerned about) are subsidizing this development through our taxes. We pay for bond measures and get reduced services as other funds are budgeted to cover costs not covered by developers profiting from new housing.
